Meet Our Team

Steve Thunder, Acoustical Engineer

Steve Thunder, BSE

Acoustical Engineer & Assistive Listening Expert

Steve is a senior acoustical engineer and president of the firm and holds a degree in acoustical engineering from Purdue University. He has substantial experience in planning and conducting field noise testing. In addition, he has conducted numerous laboratory analyses of recorded samples of sounds and noise; and has created numerous 3D models analyzing sound propagation using the 3D modeling program, SoundPlan.  

 

Steve has worked on numerous environmental and community noise problems where he presents his recommendations to various boards. He has provided expert testimony in legal proceedings in the areas of audibility and community noise impact. Steve is also a leading expert in assistive listening (sound for the hearing impaired), having designed hundreds of audio induction loop systems. Furthermore, he is qualified to conduct and interpret noise exposure testing for companies to comply with OSHA’s hearing conservation regulations. Steve is a guest speaker in the areas of; noise assessment, hearing conservation, acoustics, and assistive listening having lectured at Rush University, Northwestern University, Purdue University, conferences, and seminars.  

Tom Thunder is an audiologist and board-certified acoustical engineer. After obtaining his master’s degree, he completed post-graduate training in acoustics at the Illinois Institute of Technology and then later obtained his doctoral degree in audiology from Salus University. As a former adjunct faculty member at Rush University, Northern Illinois University, and Salus University, Tom taught courses in acoustics, psychoacoustics, hearing science, and hearing conservation.  Tom served on the Board of Trustees for the AAA Foundation and is a member of the National Hearing Conservation Association and the Acoustical Society of America. He is a past-president of the Illinois Academy of Audiology and the Chicago Regional Chapter of the Acoustical Society. He lectures widely on topics ranging from forensic audiology to environmental noise, to hearing loss prevention, to hearing loop technology.

Megan Thunder Head of Operations

Megan has a bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion from Purdue University. Before joining Thunder Acoustics she developed a strong background in customer relations, sales fulfilment and project coordination from various channels. She furthered her skills in the AV world as a branch coordinator, inside sales associate and service coordinator. As our head of operations and sales assistant, she is the perfect fit to understand our client’s needs.
